Given my international flight options from Pittsburgh (PIT), I often fly IcelandAir to Europe. Yes, the airline offers a 1-5 day stopover to explore Iceland but as a different, and fun little tactic, on my return flight to the states, I often take an early flight from Europe to Iceland, with an end of day connection, leaving me a full day to explore the city. With my bags fully checked through to my final destination, I don't have to worry about reclaiming them at KEF (the airport in Iceland) and I stash my carry-on bags in the handy dandy locker room at the airport. I then hop on the flybus and explore one of my favorite little cities hands-free. Here are some great stops for a fun little day in Reykjavík before it's back to the airport to fly home.
